Peterborough Lions Club provides assorted books and activity packs for local children in several settings.

Who we support

  • Lime Academy, Parnwell — helping to stock a new library for families to use after school
  • Children’s Amazon ward and outpatients, Peterborough City Hospital — see below

Hospital patient activity packs (PAPs)

For many years the club has funded and donated Patient Activity Packs (PAPs) to Peterborough City Hospital. Packs include age-appropriate books and activities — puzzle books, quiz sheets, and similar materials — for children to use during appointments or to take home on discharge.

The Patient Activity Pack programme was founded and led for many years by Ann Peacock — herself a former Lion, and wife of long-serving Lion Bill Peacock — who compiled the packs with the club’s support. Ann passed away in 2025; we remember her with gratitude for the comfort these packs have brought to children and other patients at Peterborough City Hospital, and for inspiring other Lions clubs to take up the same idea.

The club continues to fund and supply Patient Activity Packs. Packs are supplied in wipe-clean plastic wallets so ward staff can disinfect them before they are issued to patients. Child-age packs go to Amazon ward; we have also supplied packs for other units at the hospital, including the Cavell mental health unit.

Ward staff have told us the packs are warmly received. The idea has since been taken up by other Lions clubs in East Anglia and beyond.

For historical detail — including how the programme grew during the pandemic and figures from earlier deliveries — see our blog post Patient Activity Packs at Peterborough City Hospital (February 2021). An earlier delivery that included donated children’s books is described in Christmas delivery to Peterborough City Hospital (December 2020).
