Peterborough Lions Club (CIO) can be contacted via phone – 0345 833 9534 or email via the contact page on the website – we have a list there of contacts for specific queries. You can also find us on social media. We process “personal data” and/or “special category data” (as defined in data protection legislation) as part of the membership services, fund-raising and/or in our administration. All data are held securely and for as long as they relate to the
reasons for collection and/or if there is a statutory retention period.
Security of data and confidentiality are very important to us to protect everyone involved in our services. If we want to use your photograph to show people what great fun we have fund-raising and promote what we do, we will ask your permission. Data may be shared with third parties as part of our services, for our administration and/or if we are required by law to do so. We cannot accept any liability for any processing conducted by a third party outside our remit.
Contact form and issue reports
If you use Report an issue (or another form path that includes page details), we may show the page title, page URL, and a short description of your browser (for example “Chrome 123 on Windows 10/11”). These details are only included in the message we receive if you leave Include page and browser details checked. We use them to investigate problems on the site, not for marketing.
Contact, volunteer-interest, and magic-link sign-in forms may also use Cloudflare Turnstile, a bot-protection check, so we can reduce spam and automated abuse. Cloudflare processes a short-lived challenge response for that purpose. We do not use Turnstile for marketing.
Donations and Gift Aid
When you donate through this website, we store the donation amount and a payment reference from our payment provider (enough to confirm the payment). We never see or store your card details — card payments are handled entirely by our payment provider. You may optionally add a receipt email address after payment.
If you choose to claim Gift Aid, we ask for your full name and UK address so we can reclaim tax from HMRC on eligible donations. That declaration is stored with your order (and may update a standing preference on your account if you are signed in). We keep Gift Aid records for as long as needed for tax and charity reporting, and we may include them in reports our treasurer uses for HMRC claims.
Mailing list
If you join our email list (or opt in from a donation thank-you or checkout), we send your email address and topic preferences to Sender.net, which provides our mailing-list service. We may record that the signup came from this website (Source = website). You can change preferences or unsubscribe at any time via links in our emails, or through our mailing list preferences page (magic-link sign-in).
Maps and location embeds
Some pages embed Google Maps (for example meeting venue maps, stockist maps, or similar location guides). Opening those pages loads content from Google’s servers; Google may set cookies or collect usage data under its own terms. Unlike some other embeds on this site, map iframes are shown when you visit the page (they are not held behind the cookie banner).
Cookies on this website
We use essential cookies to run the site (for example, keeping you signed in when you use the shop checkout, and remembering items in your basket).
With your consent, we may also load embedded content from third-party services, including:
- Social media previews (for example on our contact page)
- Embedded videos (for example on Lions Roar)
- Google Analytics (GA4) — to understand how people use the site. When you choose Essential only, Analytics runs in a limited cookieless mode; full analytics cookies are used only after you Accept.
Google Maps embeds (see above) load when you open the relevant page and are not controlled by the cookie banner.
These consent-gated services may set their own cookies. Those embeds are withheld until you accept cookies in the banner.
Order and donation details we store ourselves
When you complete a shop purchase or donation, we may store first-party details on the order (for example campaign links such as UTM parameters, a landing page path, or a partner referrer code). These are not third-party advertising cookies: they help us understand where an order came from and, where a partner referrer code is used, calculate that partner’s share of quiz-sheet cover price so we can pay them offline. This happens whether or not you accept analytics cookies.
You can change your cookie choice at any time using the button below, or Update cookie preferences where an embed is withheld.
Your rights (including a copy of your data)
None of the above affects your rights under the legislation, in particular your right to access the data we hold on you. You may request a copy of the personal information we may hold on you — please use the contact page or email webmaster@peterboroughlions.org.uk, and include enough information for us to identify you and search the right records (for example the email address you used when donating or ordering).
If you are dissatisfied with this policy, have queries about our data protection procedures or wish to lodge a complaint, please contact the organisation in the first instance. Thereafter you have the right to submit a complaint to the Supervisory Authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):
