It seems so very long ago that the 2019/20 “Fifty Fifty” quiz first started to take shape, then went to the printers, before going on sale and heading off around the country. It even seems a long time since the deadline for completed quizzes passed (it’s actually only a month). Since then we’ve been busy marking and checking your alternative answers to see if we could add them to our final list.
And finally, that left us with a handful of completely correct sheets from which to draw winners, and that prize draw happened last night at the Club’s February business meeting.
Feedback on the whole has been that this year’s was on the tough side. We’ll endeavour to re-balance things in time for the next quiz, due out in September. (For more information, see the answer sheet.)
So, without further ado, here are the winners. If you’re on the list you should be receiving your prize cheques from us shortly. If you’re not on the list, then thank-you for taking part – your support is, as always, extremely important to us.
First Prize (£100): R Hill (Co. Donegal)
Second Prize (£75): C Martin (Ely)
Third Prize (£50): J Baker (Chesterfield)
Fourth Prize (£25): T Carvill (Co. Down)
Runners up (£10 winners):
C Chantler (Bath)
A Ashenhurst (Exeter)
V Reis (Chelmsford)
A Granville (Peterborough)
P Burden (Wokingham)
B Stone (Crawley)
Once again thank you to everyone who bought a quiz, whether or not you completed it and sent it back to us. We hope you’ll be back in September for the 2020/21 Quiz!
Yes, the day has finally come; Peterborough Lions Quiz Sheets are now officially available for sale.
Peterborough Lions Fifty-Fifty Quiz
This year Peterborough Lions Club reaches the ripe old age of 50, and so our topic this year, “Fifty-Fifty” celebrates the people (and business, events, etc) who share this milestone, as well as anything relating to the number 50 itself.
This year, our primary projects are replacing our community minibus and supporting local youth projects.
For now the easiest way to guarantee getting one is via our web shop, but over coming days they will start to be available from local shops and businesses too, and a list will be made available on our website.
Anyone who would like to help us sell them is invited to contact us, whether to sell them to raise money directly for us, or on a shared “50:50” basis where half of the sale proceeds go to another great cause that you wish to support. Over £90,000 has been raised this way in past years.
Our annual quiz sheets go on sale on 1st September, and we’ve just got them back from the printers so we’re ready and raring to go!
We’ll be telling you the topic, and the reason for it, very soon now. But in the meantime we thought we’d share some of the process behind getting the quiz sheets ready each year, by answering some of the questions we’re often asked.
Update: The community minibus has now been replaced! See community minibus page As many of you will know, during 2019 we sadly lost our community minibus to an accident and were striving hard to replace it as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we’ve received a wonderful testimonial from one of its regular users, 2nd Nene Scouts, an extract from which follows:
Thank you to everybody who took part in our Heroes & Villains quiz! Whether you were lucky enough to be listed below as one of our winners, or never got past the first question, your support is invaluable to us and we cannot do any good work in the community without your support.
At our February club business meeting we were fortunate to have District Governor Lion Mandy Hawksley visiting us, and she was happy to carry out the winners draw with the help of other visitors and club members.
The winners all succeeded in achieving 100% – well done to all of you. They were drawn in the following order:
How did you get on with our “Tom, Dick and Harry (Pat and Den Too)” quiz?
If you got them all right, then well done, and if you sent them back to us for the chance to win a prize then you’re part of a small crowd: we had lots sent back to us this year and unusually few that were 100% correct. So if you finished yours and didn’t return it thinking you stood no chance of winning then shame on you!
The winners were drawn at our February Business Meeting, and here they are:
B Stone, Crawley (wins £100)
E Dickenson, Dereham (wins £75)
C Hutchcraft, Warboys (wins £50)
N Mead, Orton Wistow (wins £25)
P Taylor, Walton (wins £10)
L Porter, Tring (wins £10)
P Jeffrey, Ancaster (wins £10)
A Towler, Wisbech (wins £10)
L Johnson, Newborough (wins £10)
J Burton, Uttoxeter (wins £10)
(If you were lucky enough to win, and doubly lucky enough to live locally, then we can recommend spending some of your winnings on a chance to win some chocolate!)

The famous PETERBOROUGH LIONS QUIZ SHEETS are now in and coming to a venue near you SOON! Look out for our sellers in your local supermarket in the coming weeks. They may also be available through other smaller outlets and our 50/50 partners, other approved worthwhile charities with which we share the proceeds on a, you guessed it, 50/50 basis. This gives direct support to such charities while still topping up our funds to support other community needs.
If you have never purchased one before these are a very popular item. They can be done individually or as a family or other group (at least one regular supporter keeps them to do after lunch on Christmas Day!). Once you’ve answered as many questions as you can, you can send in your completed sheet(s) which will go into a handsome prize draw!
This year’s topic is “Tom, Dick & Harry (Pat & Den Too)”. That is, 100 questions where all the answers include one of those names lurking within them.
To see where they’re on sale locally, take a look here – if you want to be added to this list please get in touch!
Thank you to everyone who purchased quiz leaflets this year – your support is incredibly important to us and we are extremely grateful to everyone who joined in, whether or not you returned the quiz to us for entry into the prize draw.

Peterborough Lions are pleased to announce that you can now obtain your quiz leaflets from Barnados charity shop in Werrington.
In common with other charities that sell the quiz for us, 50% of the value of the sale will go directly to Barnados with the other 50% coming back to Lions for the many other projects we support.
Peterborough Lions are pleased to report that we will be at Sainsbury’s in Bretton on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November and the following week at Sainsbury’s on Oxney Road on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th.
Please do come along and say hello, and buy a quiz leaflet (or two!). For any organised shoppers planning a month ahead they make great stocking fillers, and we really appreciate all your support. A huge thank you also goes to Sainsbury’s for allowing us to use them as venues.
